OBITUARY
SERGEANT J. S. H. DRING. RESPECTED AND WELL KNOWN TAUERU RESIDENT. Sergeant John Stanley Horton Dring. of Taueru, whose name appeared in a recent N.Z.E.F. casualty list as having been killed in action, was born at Catford, London, 36 years ago. He was the only son of Mrs M. E. Dring. Hove, Sussex (England) and the late Captain Dring. Sergeant Dring was educated at Colfe’s Grammar School. Lewisham. England. He subsequently came to New Zealand to join a cousin who was farming in the Rangitata district. He later joined the stall' of a Wellington motor company. Some years ago he settled in Taueru. Soon after the outbreak of war he volunteered for overseas service and left New Zealand with the Second Echelon. He met his mother in England after an absence of 18 years. While stationed in Camberley he became an attendant to a crippled child. During his stay there he wheeled the child many miles around the English countryside. 'All who came in contact with Sergeant Dring respected him for his unselfish nature and bright personality. He was a well read and clever conversationalist and was most popular among a wide circle ol’ friends. The sympathy of many friends will be extended to his wife. Mrs A. D. Dring, Schoolhouse, Taueru.
