GRAIN AND PRODUCE

CANTERBURY MARKETS. RESTRAINED TRADE IN POTATOES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. May 23. Except for a restrained trade in potatoes. the grain and produce markets locally are extremely dull. Potatoes have been a little weaker in the last few days, apparently mainly because supplies are still reaching northern markets from Ohakune. Digging is well forward in most districts. The crop has turned out remarkably well in many districts, but in others it has been disappointing. There is no indication at present that there will be a shortage, but it is early yet to be able to tell. Whites are worth £7 on trucks, with Suttons at £7 10s, and the market has little strength. No other section of the market shows any life and prices are unchan- i ged from last week.
