SALE AT FEILDING

SATISFACTORY DEMAND FOR SHEEP. PIG VALUES UNCHANGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING May 23. The market at Feilding today for sheep was quite satisfactory, but for cattle the demand was quiet. The entry was small and no stock of outstanding quality was offered. Fat sheep: A keen sale resulted for fat lambs, prices being above schedule rates for quality, if offering. Wethers and ewes were firm at late rates. Extra prime lambs made 23s Id to 23s 7d: prime, 20s Id to 21s lOd; light, 17s 6d tc 19s lOd; extra prime wethers, 24s Id tc 25s 4d; prime, 22s to 23s lOd; unfinished. 20s lOd to 225; extra prime ewes. 12s 3d to 13s 4d; prime, 10s Id to Ils 7d; overweights, 7s 3d to 9s 8d; maiden ewes, 20s Id.

Store sheep: Practically only lambs were on sale, good sorts selling freely. A few head of young breeding ewes also found a ready market. Best wether lambs made 15s 3d' to 16s 6d; second quality, 13s 4d to 14s 7d; others. 9s to 12s lOd; good black face lambs,. 14s 2d to 16s 6d; fair sorts, 12s 3d to 13s 8d; others, 6s lid to Ils 7d; ewe lambs, 10s 6d; mixed sex lambs, 16s 3d; two-tooth ewes, 365; four-tooth ewes, 27s 6d; five-year, 9s 6d to 10s lOd. Store cattle: Not a very good sale took place for cattle, except that boner cow prices advanced. Good 21 -year steers made £6 15s: small, £5; 18month steers, £2 17s 6d; two-year heifers, £4; 18-month, £1 17s 6d; 2J-year, £5 to £6 10s; yearling Jersey heifers, £2 17s 6d: boner cows, £3 2s 6d to £4 17s 6d. Dairy cattle: The few head of dairy stock forward sold at late rates. Springing heifers made £6 5s to £7; springing cows, £6. Fat cattle: The quality of the beef yarded was poor, but the clearance was quite satisfactory. Prime cows and heifers made £6 12s 6d to £7 7s 6d; second grade, £5 10s to £6 ss; exdairy cows, £3 12s 6d to £5 ss; light prime steers. £8 17s 6d to £9 17s 6d; others, £5 7s 6d to £7 7s 6d; vealers, £3 12s 6d.

Pig?: No change was shown in values for pigs. Weaners made Ils 6d to 15s; stores, 32s 6d.

CARTERTON SALE

LATE RATES MAINTAINED. A TOTAL CLEARANCE. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows: —A good yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs came forward at the Carterton sale yesterday. Prices were on a par with late rates and a total clearance was effected under the hammer. The following are some of the realisations: — Sheep: Fat b.f’s., 21s 9d, 22s 3d to 235; fat hoggets, 20s to 23s 9d; heavy fat ewes, 12s to 13s; fat ewes, 9s, 9s 3d, 9s 6d to 10s; fat and forward b.fs., to 16s 9d; woolly ewe hoggets, to 19s Id; good woolly wether hoggets, to 16s 4d; wether hoggets, 13s, 13s lOd to 14s; b.f. hoggets, 10s 6d to 15s 3d. Cattle: Springing cows, to £7 10s; prime heavy cows, £6 to £7; fat cows, £5 to £5 18s; light fat cows, £4 12s to £4 17s 6d; forward cows, £3 10s to £4 ss; store cows, £2 to £2 16s; vcalers, £2 to £2 19s. Pigs: Eaconers, £2 17s to £3 12s; J heavy porkers, 35s to £2 Is; porkers, 28s to 345; light porkers, 25s to 275; store pigs, 18s. 20s to 235: slips. Ils, 12s 6d, 13s to 14s 6d; weaners, 6s to 10s; 1 choppers. 15s to 235.
