WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
RONGOKOKAKO MEETING COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute was held recently, Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors. The report of the Bush Federation meeting recently held was read by Miss A. Schultz. »A most interesting talk was given by Miss Hazel Johnson on nutrition, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A most enjoyable play entitled “The Jumble Sale,” was f’iven by the junior members. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: —Plain scones: Miss D. Nagel, 1; Mrs Nagel, 2. Best jam jar of autumn leaves and berries: Mrs Baucke, 1; Miss D. Nagel. 2. Best bloom: Mrs Baucke (chrysanthemum), 1; Miss E. Sigvertsen (carnation), 2. After the hostesses, Mesdames Smith and Payne, had served afternoon tea, the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
KAITUNA-FERNRIDOE 1 WAR WORK ACTIVITIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) < The monthly meeting of the Kai-tuna-Fernridge Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Pringle. = Members handed in balaclavas which had been knitted during the month. Mrs Laing read “Pioneer Days,” while other members worked, at wool and patchwork quilts. The competitions resulted as follow: —Wholemeal scones: Mrs Welsh, 1; Mrs Chapman, 2. Flowers: Mrs Shaw, 1; Mrs Pike, 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mes- . dames Peters, Laing and Pike. t The competition for next month is a Cornish pastie.
