ROUNDING UP REMNANTS IN ABYSSINIA. FURTHER HEAVY CAPTURES. 24.000 PRISONERS TAKEN IN WEEK. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, May 22. In Abyssinia the remnants of the defeated Italian forces are being rounded up. Five thousand prisoners have been taken in operations in the south and west, and more than 300 in the Gondar area. During this week British troops have captured over 24,000 Italian soldiers in Abyssinia. Tn the battle of‘the Lakes the remnants of two enemy divisions arc trapped between British forces advancing from the west and the south. An Italian counter-attack was repulsed and British artillery inflicted considerable losses on the retreating enemy. Further south British advance guards overwhelmed a complete enemy regimental brigade headquarters and three colonial battalions. Free French aircraft are supporting the operations in Southern Abyssinia. In North Africa an enemy post on Solium Hill was destroyed and three German tanks were put out of action. R.A.F. and South African planes attacked an enemy motorised column and many lorries were destroyed or damaged.
