GERMAN CITIES

“IN MIDST OF FRONT LINE” SOME GLOOMY ADMISSIONS BY GOEBBELS. A.R.P. WORK DEADLY SERIOUS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright! LONDON. May 21. Dr. Goebbels, addressing A.R.P. workers in Berlin, attacked critics wiio before the war laughed at the A.R.P. organisation. “Today the A.R.P. isn't a joking matter but one of deadly seriousness," he said. “Many of you bear scars received in raids. We formerly differentiated between the front and the homeland. Today Kiel, Bremen and Hamburg are in the very midst of the front line." His speech showed clearly that the R.A.F. raids are having telling effect. Complaining that American newspapers had been saying that the British people were standing up better to air attack than the German people, he said that if the Germans were able to accomplish what they had done under the mad and cowardly leadership of the last war. what would they be able to stand in this war when they were led by a real man? There were districts which had been completely spared from air attack, there were others which had had to stand fairly heavy blows, and there were others which had suffered severe damage. While it might be more comfortable to live in a district free, from bombing, after the war it would be more honourable to have lived in a district that was' severely handled.
