BETWEEN 18,000 AND 19,000 TAKEN AT AMBA ALAGI
With Duke of Aosta and Five of His Generals FURTHER PROGRESS AND CAPTURES IN SOUTH BRITISH PATROLS ACTIVE IN SOLLUM AREA The Duke of Aosta and five of his generals are now in British hands, after all Italian equipment had been handed over. Sc far the capture of this important fort has led to the rounding up of between 18,000 and 19,000 prisoners. The remnants cf two Italian divisions in East Africa are putting up a fight in the Lakes area, south of Addis Ababa. British troops are rapidly closing in on them. Yesterday they ■captured an Italian brigadier and a number of prisoners after a sharp engagement with the Italian rearguard. In North Africa, British mechanised patrols have again vigorously harassed the enemy in the Solium area. There is no change in the situation at Tobruk. The R.A.F. continues its offensive patrols in the Western Desert. Two German planes have been destroyed and enemy motorised transport effectively machine-gunned.
