AMERICAN PARTICIPATION IN WAR STATEMENTS IN TOKIO. "JAPAN MUST ABIDE BY HER OBLIGATIONS." (By Telegraph-Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.45 a.m.) NEW YORK. May 19. The correspondent of the Associated Press of America, in a message from Tokio. states: “The Japanese Press today declared that United States participation in the war was only a matter of time. The general comment was that Japan must abide by her obligations should the occasion arise.” The “Kokumin Shimbun" said: "Japan's attitude is very simple. Il all depends on what America is going to do, regardless of Japan’s possible declaration of war. It is quite natural for Japan to extend every material aid to the Axis and whether war is declared or not is a secondary matter."
