HOME GUARD
MASTERTON BATTALION CLASSES & PARADES. PROMOTIONS & APPOINTMENTS. The following Home Guard classes will be held tonight at 7 o'clock: — N.C.O.’s al Municipal Hall; P.T. at College Assembly Hall; Officers at Municipal Hall (Capt. Fowler). On Thursday A Coy will parade at the Drill Hall, C Coy at the Municipal Hall, the Signal Platoon at Malmo Motors, and the Medical Platoon at the Ambulance Room, all at 7 p.m. On Sunday A and C Coys will parade at the aerodrome at 8.15 a.m., and D Coy at the Opaki Racecourse at 9 a.m. AH ranks of A, C and D Companies are to take a mug or a cup. Platoon Commanders, D Coy, are to make arrangements with their platoons for independent programmes in the event of wet weather. On Monday B Coy will parade at the Municipal Hall at 7 p.m. Active members of the Home Guard may be allowed to retain possession of their rifles but only on the distinct understanding that they are always available to their unit for training purposes and that no guarantee can be given that such rifles will remain in the possession of individuals should a more serious situation develop. If a member who possesses a rifle fails to attend parades and if it is obvious that he has no intention of training in the future, then the unit commander will take immediate steps to obtain possession of the rifle, which of course is now Government property. If the unit commander is unable to obtain possession of the rifle or is unable to trace the address of the individual concerned, then at the earliest possible opportunity he should acquaint the local police officer with the position and ask him to take the necessary steps. This applies also to those who have been nominated by the owner to take over a rifle.
Promotions and appointments arc: Guardsman J. H. Brown from Bideford Platoon to Tinui Platoon. Sgt. Corbishly to be Acting Coy Sgt. Mjr. D Company. Capt. J. V. Dolan, D. 5.0., to be Battalion H.Q. Coy Commander and Intelligence Officer. The following to be Corporals, A Coy: W. E. L. Baker, B. Norman, S. J. Whitaker, R. G. Mackie, J. B. Carruthers. The following to be L/Corp. Bideford Platoon: E. M. Wrigley.
The following are transferred from their Companies to H.Q. Coy Signal Platoon: A Coy, H. G. Pickering, S. T. Moore, V. J. Duly, A. M. Duly, F. Parsonson; C Coy, G. McCormack. O. Wilmhurst, T. Brown. J. Welch, A. E. Wimms. A. Smith. C. N. Castles. H. V. Marshall. L. Cretney. L. Coley. R. Emery. G. A. Pool. F. A. Algar, P. Gleeson.
The following are transferred from their Coys to H.Q. Coy Medical Platoon: A Coy. A. J. Parsons. G. Guerney, J. McGillivray. G. A. Gregory. A. McPherson. R. Bridge water. S. Smith. A. H. Falloon; C Coy. J. F. Cuthbert. L. C. Catton, J. H. Riley. W. J. Marsh. ,1. P. Loader. H. H. Loader. The above specialists will in future parade at the times and places arranged for by their platoon commanders.
