WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT HAMUA. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs S. H. Hobbs presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Hamua Women’s Institute. On the motion of the president a vote of sympathy was passed to Mr and Mrs Reeve and family .in the loss of their son, the first soldier from this district to make the supreme sacrifice. The motto for the month was: “Who sinks in freedom’s battle never dies.” Miss McLaughlin gave an interesting report on the Bush Federation’s meeting I’ecently held at Pahiatua, for which she was thanked. A competition arranged by Mrs R. Cavanagh was won by Mrs Farrow. Miss Noeline Cavanagh won the mystery parcel. The monthly competitions resulted as follow: —Best bloom: Mrs Farrow, 1; Mrs McGarvie, 2. Knitted scarf for baby: Mrs Galvin. 1; Mrs McGarvie, 2. Votes of thanks to the hostesses, Mesdames Carruthers and Bailey and the judge, Mrs Bourke, and the singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting. Drunken Motorists Fined. At a sitting of the Pahiatua Magistrate’s Court before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., David Norman Peck, of Eketahuna, was charged with having been intoxicated whilst in charge of a motor vehicle. The case arose out of a collision between defendant’s lorry and a car driven by Mr J. F. Baillie on the Newman Road on May 7. Peck was fined £lO with costs 10s 6d. The same penalty was imposed on Arthur Peck on. a similar charge. New Books in Library. The following new books are now available at the local Municipal Library:—Nothing is Past (K.
