WEDDING

’ BRAGGINS—SELBY. r The marriage took place recently at 1 St. Matthew's Church. Masterton, of Una Kathleen ("Billie"), only daughter of Mr and Mrs George Selby, Masterton, and Arthur Maxwell (Max), fourth son of Mrs and the late Mr J. A. ■ Braggins, Masterton, and formerly of ■ Carterton. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiated. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a gown of white lace over satin, cut on fitting lines with a full train inset with godets of net frills. The long tulle veil (lent by a friend) was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a shower'bouquet of white chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Nancy Cornick, wore a frock of apricot shot taffeta, with a heart-shape neck-line and a very full skirt on which were hearts of velvet flowers. She also wore a heart of flowers on her head. Her bouquet was of chrysanthemums, anemones and maidenhair fern. The duties of best man were capably | carried out by Mr Jack Manell. On leaving the church the bride was presented with two horseshoes by Helen and Janet Viles. The reception was held in the Cosy Tearooms, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother who wore a navy blue ensemble with navy hat and accessories. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, who wore a frock of teal green synthetic wool with hat to tone and a brown fur. After the reception Mr and Mrs Braggins left for the north, the bride wearing a dark teal blue costume with black accessories. A toast to Mr and Mrs George Selby who were celebrating then: silver wedding, was proposed by Mr W. H. Toomer, Lyall Bay, Wellington, who had given away the bride of 25 years ago. When proposing the toast of the bride’s and gridegroom’s parents Mr H. E. Gardner mentioned that this marriage joined together two Masterton pioneer families. He stated that thefirst petition to have Masterton declared a borough contained the names of Mr E. Braggins and Mr Thomas Gardner. The bridegroom (Mr A. M. Braggins) was a grandson of Mr E. Braggins. and the bride the great granddaughter of Mr T. Gardner.
