NARROW ESCAPE

SEAMAN FALLS INTO GREY RIVER. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL INJURED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH. This Day. George Spruce, a seaman, aged 57, narrowly escaped drowning shortly after midnight. Apparently he fell into the Grey River while attempting to board the vessel Alexander. He was found by the Chief Officer, Mr Collins, clinging to a wharf pole, with one leg broken and suffering from the effects of his immersion. He was taken to hospital and today his condition is reported as satisfactory.
