OBITUARY
THE EARL OF LIVERPOOL. FORMER GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF NEW ZEALAND. (Received This Day. 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 16. Obituary.—The Earl of Liverpool. The Earl of Liverpool, the fifth holder of the title, was Governor of New Zealand from 1912 to 1917 and Gover-nor-General from 1917 (the year in which that designation was instituted) to 1920. He was born in 1870 and educated at Eton and Sandhurst." Posted to the Rifle Brigade, he served in South Africa 1901-2 and was promoted to major in 1907. He was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1906 to 1908. The Rifle Brigade, added to the New Zealand Division in the Great War, was known as the Earl of Liverpool's Own. Lord Liverpool’s heir is his half-brother. Lieutenant-Colonel Gerald W. F. Savile-Folijambe.
