BY ROYAL AIR FORCE JN AFRICA & IRAK. HEAVY ATTACK ON BENGHAZI. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) RUGBY, May 15. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states:—‘Th Cyrenaica, on the night of May 12, bombers of the R.A.F. raided Benghazi. Direct hits were scored on. the railway, buildings at. military headquarters, administration buildings and the base of the Cathedral Mole. Some fires were started, but detailed observations of damage were difficult. “Numerous reconnaissance flights and fighter patrols were carried out over enemy territory in Cyrenaica yesterday. "In the Dodecanese Islands on the previous night the aerodromes at Maritza and Calato were attacked. Fires were started and many bombs fell near dispersed aircraft. “In Iraq our aircraft continued to attack rebel positions and objectives of military value, such as aerodromes, railways and motor transport. Amara, Hashed, Mosul and the railway line at Bagdad were all raided. "In Central Abyssinia, direct hits were obtained on Fort Mendi and ma-chine-gun posts and troops were attacked by aircraft of the South African Air Force. “On the night of May 13 enemy aircraft raided Malta. Some slight damage was caused to R.A.F. property, but there were no casualties, civilian or military. Another small /aid was carried out yesterday. Our fighters intercepted the enemy and drove them off. “In all these operations, two of our aircraft are lost, but the pilot of one escaped safely, by parachute.” HEAVY PRESSURE ADMITTED BY ITALIANS IN ABYSSINIA. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, May 15. An Italian communique states: — “Enemy pressure in Abyssinia continues in all sectors, particularly at Amba Alagi. where the Italians are re-( sisting fiercely."
