Frost in Masterton. Masterton experienced a frost of 8.1 degrees this morning. Shooting Season. The shooting season, which opened on May 3, closes on Sunday, and not tomorrow, as was stated yesterday. Troops Entertained. Troops on leave in the Masterton district were entertained at a dinner last night. The Deputy-Mayor, Mr W. White,, presided. Parking in Queen Street. Motorists are reminded that the parking time for motor vehicles in Queen Street, Masterton, is restricted to 45 minutes. On Wednesday it was found that many motorists were failing to observe this by-law. Munitions for New Zealand. An announcement thal the Government was making arrangements for a visit to Australia by the Minister of National Service, Mr Semple, in connection with' the supply of munitions, was made yesterday by the ActingPrime Minister, Mr Nash. Air Mails to Egypt. The Post Office advises that the Empire air mail service between India and Egypt is now restored and that air transit is again available for correspondence for places beyond India normally served by the Empire Air Service. Masterton Harriers. The Masterton Harrier Club will hold a hares and hounds' race tomorrow. The race will commence at 2.30 p.m. from the Park Oval and the trail will be picked up from the Colombo Road bridge. A full attendance is requested. Anzac Day. At the meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council this week it was decided that it be a recommendation to the incoming council, subject to the acceptance by the R.S.A., that a citizens’ committee be set up to arrange for Anzac Day Services, so as to avoid any disorganisation. Returned soldiers should be the guests, stated Councillor Greaves, and all the work should not be left to them. Drunken Motorist Sent to Gaol. Sentence of one month's imprisonment for a second offence of being intoxicated while in charge of a motorcar was passed at Auckland yesterday by Mr Hunt. S.M.. on Herbert Edward Muncaster O’Neill, aged 35. battery repairer. The police said the car struck a boy on a cycle near an intersection on the new North Road about 4.55 p.m. on May 7. The boy could not be traced by the police, and it was evident he had not been injured. It was alleged that O'Neill’s car did not stop and that lie was chased and forced to stop by a taxidriver. also that he afterward disappeared and Was found drunk in bed at his home shortly after 6 p.m. On the second charge of driving without a licence. O'Neill was convicted and discharged. Gifts Acknowledged.
