OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
ELECTION HUMOUR (To the Editor) Sir. —From the trend of Mr Goudge’s public address on Tuesday evening last, I take it that Star Chamber methods are adopted by the outgoing council; but will Mr Goudge’s election to civic honours prevent future meetings of the council turning themselves into a Mrs Jarley’s Waxworks affair? This very eloquent if misdirected candidate told an almost similar tale to the electors three years ago. but failed to convince the electors that his presence in the Council Chamber would purify the air, and a like vote of no-confidence in him may again occur. However, a few months hence. Mr Goudge’s forensic abilities may enliven what otherwise promises to be a rather war-weary, dull election campaign. Like all economists, our energetic townsman seems to follow closely along the accepted lines of gradually knowing “more and more about less and less.” —I am. etc., “ICHABOD." Masierton, May 15.
