GREATER THAN THE RATE OF REPLACEMENT ACCORDING TO BRITISH EXPERT. LOSS OF NEW CRAFT PROBABLY 70 PER CENT. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, May 12. Commander H. Pursey, R.N.. in a contribution to Brassey’s "Naval Annual" for 1941. estimates that it is likely that since the new U-boats began to come into commission last May, 70 per cent of them have been sunk. "It should be possible to improve on this rate.” he says, “but even the present rate is probably greater than the German replacement ot U-boats. It is certainly greater than the available supply of efficient crews.
