WAR AIMS

DECLARATION BY BRITISH CHURCH LEADERS "AN AGREED CHRISTIAN ORDER.” REFERENCE TO THE POPE'S PEACE POINTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 10. The Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Hinsley, presided at a meeting today in support of “an agreed Christian order." This meeting, and another which the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury is expected to preside over tomorrow, has followed the recent letter to “The Times” when the Christian leaders of this country accepted the Pope's peace points. In the, course of his speech Cardinal Hinsley said: “We have one great purpose in which we are unshaken and undivided against the onslaught of brue force. We will uphold the fundamental principles of personal national and international freedom to the last. We renew the appeal of the Pope to all men of goodwill, to all who believe in God, that they combine in loyal and hearty collaboration in order to ward off from mankind the danger that threatens all alike.”

After the Bishop of Chichester, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Bell, had addressed the meeting a resolution was carried urging the Government of the British Commonwealth and the allied and associated Governments to adopt the 10 points of the letter as the basis of any future statement of war and peace aims.
