GREYTOWN

PLUNKET SOCIETY ANNUAL REPORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual report of the Greytown sub-branch of the Plunket Society states, inter alia:—During the past year the activities of the branch have been somewhat curtailed by reason of the war. Nevertheless the vital work of the branch has been carried out and interest satisfactorily maintained. The Bridge Club, reduced to playing on two afternoons a month, continues to help financially, £2O Os 6d being raised for the year. Thanks are due to Mrs Kiernan who supervised the operations of the club, to Mrs Bayliss for bringing flowers for prizes and to all others who kindly donated prizes. Raffles, afternoon teas and sale of flowers brought in £2O Is 3d. During the year two most valued members of the committee, Mesdames Barnard and Stevens left the district. We have to thank the Grey town. Town Land Trust, Greytown Borough Council,.and the T. G. McCarthy Trust for their welcome grants. We were able to again reduce our loan to Carterton by paying off £3O. Our thanks are due to Mr Knell our hon. auditor, the Advisory Board, the Press for publishing reports of meetings and to all those who have supported the work of the Society in this district.

The nurse’s report for the year ended March 31, states:—New cases: Mothers, 30; babies, 31. Visits to homes: New cases, 87; old cases, 257; older children. 122. Visits to office: Mothers, 510; babies, 448; older children, 85; number of babies on books, 48; number of children, 1 to 5 years, 24.

The report is signed by E. Maddison (acting president) and I. J. Bunny (secretary).

Men’s Hockey,

The prospects in connection with the men’s senior team are bright, in spile of the calls of the fighting services, there being fourteen players so far to call from.
