ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. There was a very good attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening. Mr W. J. Beresford presided. After the transaction of formal business, the secretary, Mr W. H. King, outlined current work of the New Zealand Esperanto Association and the position relating to clubs in the Dobinion. He reported that a new club is being founded at Levin. Mr A. G. Wiltshire and Mr Beresford presented in Esperanto a short original sketch entitled "The Visitor” with the primary object of demonstrating spoken Esperanto. This was followed by a brief address in the international language by the secretary, who dealt with the subject “Esperanto and Radio.” In this he mentioned that in spile of the present hostilities, Esperanto is being broadcast by radio stations in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Japan and U.S.A. Further conversational practice was obtained by the utilisation of a large coloured picture, each member taking part in a very active discussion of the various details.
