Miss Beth Robinson, Wellington, spent the weekend in Mastertcn. Mrs J. C. Bidwill, of Featherston, is a visitor to Napier. The death has occurred at Foxton of an old resident in the person of Mrs Mary Joan Nelson, aged 90 years. Mrs Keene, of Eketahuna, is the guest of Mrs Cresswell, Eureka, Waikato.
Mrs St. Clair Inglis, Marine Parade, Napier, is visiting her daughter, Mrs W. G. Martin, Martinborough. Miss Joyce Dickson, Wellington, is on a visit to Masterton, being the guest of her mother, Mrs W. H. Dickson, Victoria Street. Mr and Mrs G. Noad, Lyall Bay, were the guests of Mr and Mrs E. A. Staniforth, Masterton, for the weekend.
Miss Betty Renner. Pahiatua, is spending the school vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Renner, Renall Street, Masterton. Mrs W. de Jan, better known by her maiden name of Winifred James, under which she became a well-known writer, died recently in Sydney. In St Barnabas’s Church, Roseneath, last night the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt Rev H. St. Barbe Holland, inducted into her ministry in the parish of Roseneath, Deaconess Margaret Taylor, who recently arrived in New Zealand after being for many years headmistress of Elizabeth High School, Peshawar, India. “This service is making history, because this is the first time that a deaconess has been officially licensed to work in any one i parish of the Wellington diocese,” said Bishop Holland, in his address to the congregation.
