’ LOCAL ACTIVITIES KIATERE CLUB. ’ TRAINING RUN. A solid training run was held by the ; members of the Kiatere Harrier Club ’ on Saturday from the Solway Show- ' grounds. The course laid by Messrs J. Carter and N. Jacobsen embraced a good variety of country, covering about four miles. The runners were divided into two packs, the slow pack going away some five minutes before the fast pack. N. Dickel, C. Summers and S. Pickett showed up well in the slow pack, while in the fast pack N. Jacobsen, W. Burgess and L. Francis finished well. N. Jacobsen ran an excellent race, and will have to be watched very closely in future races. Next week the club will hold an invitation run from the residence of Mr and Mrs G. C. L. Dickel, Opaki Road. This race will be a handicap one, and should be keenly contested, as it will be the first competitive race of ' the season. MASTERTON CLUB. RUN OVER FIVE MILES. A run over 5 miles was held by the Masterton Harrier. Club on Saturday in ideal weather. A visitor for the run was R. Daniell, of the University Club, ■ Wellington. The opportunity was • taken by the older members to coach the junior members in different as- 1 pects of cross-country racing. ' 1 The run next Saturday afternoon is 1 to take the form of “hares and hounds,” s and members are asked to be ready to start by 2.30 o’clock. 1
