RED CROSS SOCIETY

MASTERTON SUB=CENTRE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. MISS BARNETT'S SERVICES APPRECIATED. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, Mrs G. G. Tolhurst presided. The following recommendations brought forward by the Finance Committee were adopted:— “That Miss Cruickshank and the treasurer, Miss P. Heffer, be appointed to operate jointly on the bank accounts at the Bank of New Zealand, Masterton, and also be appointed trustees of the funds in the Post. Office Savings Bank.” “That the application from the Knitting Group to be permitted to spend £5 on wool and from the Sewing Group to be permitted to spend up to £7 on materials for making nightdresses, be granted.” Miss Heffer as treasurer was appointed to replace Mr Lawson on the finance committee. Accounts totalling £lO 16s 5d were passed for payment. : Miss Elliott and Mr Lawson were elected to the general committee, and Mrs Garland was re-appointed as representative on the Mayoress’s Patriotic Committee. A letter was read from Mrs Stewart regretting that as her time was now fully taken up with work connected with the V.A.D’s., she would no longer be able to act as a convenor on the I Hospital Group. The convenors for this group would be Mrs H. Daniell, Mrs Dallas, Mrs Borthwick, Mrs J. V. Gordon and Mrs D. McKenzie. As well as carrying on their ordinary work, file Hospital Group had made and sent a large quantity of goods to Mr Lee for use in a local emergency hospital. All the groups are working hard and in spite of shipping difficulties are still able to send small cases of goods to England and two cases were sent, away last month. Mr Farrell referred to the forthcoming departure of Miss Barnett from Masterton. Regret was expressed that Miss Barnett was leaving Masterton, and it was decided to place on record appreciation of Miss Barnett’s services to the Red Cross Society. It was announced that any application for relief of distress caused by floods, should be referred to the centre, and would be dealt with through the Disaster Relief Fund.
