P. & A. SOCIETY

SUCCESS OF LAST SHOW EXCELLENT RESPONSE MADE BY EXHIBITORS. . ANNUAL MEETING HELD TODAY. . (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society was held at Carterton today. The president, Mr J. A. McLeod, presided over a large attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. In moving the adoption of the annual report (previously published in the “Times-Age”) Mr McLeod congratulated all concerned on their efforts. “The most noticeable feature this year was the way in which exhibitors patronised the show in spite of the reduction in prize money," said the treasurer, Mr Geo. Brown. It was an indication that breeders were more concerned with improving their stock than winning prize money. Mr Brown stated that of the net profit of £595 for the year £530 was from the show account. A reduction of £lO4 19s had been made in income. Donations had kept up remarkably well. Entries, as was to be expected, were down. The public had responded magnificently on show day. Despite petrol restrictions the gate takings were up by £3O. Privileges and sideshow receipts were down £5O, against a loss of £49 allowed for on the estimates. The total expenses had been reduced by £462 9s 4d and prize money reduced by £389. Mr Brown congratulated the society on the financial result of the year’s working. He stressed the value of the showgrounds in the life of the community. He considered the society should conserve its reserve funds. It was a matter for general satisfaction that the secretary, Mr L. H. Smart, had offered his services for another year. . Mr W. Howard Booth attributed the strong position of the society to the loyal co-operation of committee members and the public. Other members expressed appreciation of the work of the president. A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the support given by exhibitors.
