STATE THEATRE

“BAND WAGON.” The comedy extravaganza adapted from the famous 8.8. C. "Band Wagon," screens tonight at the State Theatre. Each joyous sequence is a laughter-making incident; the songs, catchy tune hits, the band numbers are just class revenue items; the direction is a credit to Marcel Varnel and laurels should certainly be awarded to Askey and Murdoch, who unwittingly reveal hide-out of spies and achieve tremendous success on the air. Askey’s illuminating antics with his songs rock one with helpless laughter. Since "Band Wagon” is probably the most popular radio feature ever broadcast by the London 8.8. C., Maurice Ostrer in charge of production and Edward Black, the producer, decided that nothing’should be spared to guarantee a string of hit-tunes for the film. With this intention in mind, they recruited the services of Britain's most prolific composer, Noel Gay. Noel turned out a tune for the film which it is certain will prove one of his biggest successes. It is called “The Melody Maker,” and was written specially for Jack Hylton, who will conduct his band in the number and also sing it as a duet with Patricia Kirkwood. There is in addition a brilliant selection of featurettes. For reservations patrons may ring the theatre 1322 or Adcock’s 1275.
