RUGBY SEASON
OPENING OF COMPETITIONS TOMORROW. GLADSTONE AND MASTERTON SENIORS. The 1941 Rugby season will begin at Memorial Park, Masterton, tomorrow, with a match between the senior fifteens of the Gladstone and Masterton clubs. Despite the inevitable shortage of players due to war conditions, both chibs have had promising young material from which to draw teams that will make up in keenness and speed what they lack in weight and experience. The curtain-raiser to the MastertonGladstone match will be a third-grade game between two of the fastest and most scientific teams in this competition —Carterton and Wairarapa College. TEAMS FOR TOMORROW. Red Star seniors to play Carterton, team leaving Post Office at 1.30 p.m.: — Harman. Howard, Harding, Buttress, McNaughton, Williams; Stewart. Orsborne, Grantham, O’Kane, Kelly. Henson. Reid. Peterson, Pratt. Bevan.
The following is the Rod Star third grade team to play Featherston, at Featherston (bus leaves P.O. at 1.15 p.m.):— Scandrett, Thompson. Price, McCarley, Whyborn, Corlett, Osborne, Blatchford, Benge. Lloyd, Maize, Heaven, Cheetham. Golder (2).
