MISSION TO U.S.A.
SELECTION OF MR LANGSTONE. CRITICISED BY THE AUCKLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 8. Dissatisfaction with the Government’s selection of Mr Langstone to go to the United States to initiate and promote trade negotiations was expressed at today’s meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Disclaiming any political bias, Mr Gainor Jackson said that the Minister was not qualified to represent the farmers and was not sufficiently versed in the other side of business to represent importers, and he could not be considered satisfactory from a diplomatic point of view. Mr Jackson’s motion that the chamber express its disappointment at the appointment of one with so few qualifications and limited experience as Mr Langstone for such an important mission was carried unanimously.
