TIRAUMEA
RECORD FLOOD ROADS & PROPERTY SUFFER. ("Times-Age” Special.) The highest flood in the memory of settlers was experienced, during the weekend when over 8 inches of rain was .recorded. Until Tuesday, when temporary repairs were made, Tiraumea was completely cut off from Alfredton, but now mail and stores can be brought in. From Tiraumea to Pongaroa from 40 to 50 large slips will keep the road blocked for many weeks. In the upper Waihoki Valley parts of the road have disappeared completely. Stock losses do not appear to be heavy but some settlers have lost sheep. Several blockages in rivers in the district have broken away. Fences have been damaged severely. The area which seems to have suffered most damage is the Summit where in 4 miles, apart from washouts on the road and small slips, there are 30 large slips completely blocking the road. One settler reported that on his property alone, he had at least 50 acres of slips and that silt was piled 8 feet deep in the gullies.
