FEATHERSTON
HOME GUARD WELL-ATTENDED PARADE, ("Times-Age” Special.) Another well attended parade of the Home Guard was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday. Instructor’ McCalman, organiser of physical training for the Home Guard, demonstrated and explained the benefits of the various exercises used in modern training. That Mr. McCalman’s visit has given the men a new interest and realisation of the importance of this part of their training was evident from the comment at the conclusion of the lecture. The three platoons were again, in turn, given rifle and Lewis machinegun instruction in the form of lectures. Rifles are still coming in and already 50 per cent of the men are equipped with this arm. Each parade brings new enlistments, and this week four recruits of an excellent type were sworn in. Personal. Mr and Mrs Norman Kilby, Auckland, who were the guests of Mrs Parsons, Hayward Street, have returned home. Mrs Renton. Senr., of Mosgiel, is visiting Mrs Renton, Hayward Street. The Rev. R. S. Keenan has gone into camp at Dannevirke as Chaplain to the Territorial forces. Euchre Tourneys. The attendance at the Fire Brigade euchre tourneys held on Tuesdays still continue to be satisfactory. The prize winners this week were: Ladies, Mrs Nielson 1, Mrs Rasmussen, Senr., 2; men, Mr McGuinness 1, Mrs Elder 2. Lucky chair winners were Mrs P. Habib and Mr Worsley. School Raffle. A tartan skirt which was raffled for school funds was won by Miss P. O'Neale (No. 437).
