Literature for Troops. “The R.S.A. is still the collecting depot for books and magazines for despatch to camps and troopships. Two tons have already been sent from Masterton,” said Mr’ R. Whyborn, retiring president of the Wairarapa R.S.A. at the annual meeting last night. He stressed Hie fact that more books were urgently required. Benefit Dance. The public and members of the U.A.O.D. Lodge are advised that another of the series of benefit dances for lodge members overseas will tie held in the Orange Hall on Saturday night. It is hoped that the response will be good as the net proceeds, arc being devoted to a worthy cause. Excellent music and supper will be provided and members especially are asked to attend in full force. j\ dance is advertised elsewhere in this issue.

Shop Day. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held a shop day in Masterton yesterday. Business was brisk, and the results were considered most satisfactory.

Locally-Grown Pomegranate. A fine specimen of pomegranate, grown at the Upper Plain by Mrs P. R. Welch, is on view in the window of the W.F.C.A. Ltd. seed department. Masterton. Gardeners having extended experience of local conditions are surprised that the fruit could reach maturity in this district, though the pomegranate grows fairly freely in parts of ihe Auckland province.

St John Ambulance. The St John Ambulance Brigade will hold another of its series of popular dances in the Masonic Hall. Masterton, on Saturday night. As at previous dances, the music will be supplied by Jack Barnes's Orchestra. Moderate prices are being charged for- admission. Novelty dances and a good supper will be features of the gathering.
