MASTERTON’S MAYOR

LOCAL AND NATIONAL SERVICE. AN IMPRESSIVE RECORD. Mr Thomas Jordan, who has' been reelected unopposed for a further term as Mayor of Masterton. has now served 16 vears in that capacity, having been first elected as Mayor in 1925. He had in the four preceding years been a member of the Masterton Borough Council. Mr Jordan has had long service on other bodies or associations, having been a member'of the executive of the Municipal Association since 1925 and president of the association since 1936. Other positions held by Mr Jordan include: Member of the Town Planning Board since 1930. during which period he has often acted as chairman; deputy chairman of the Transport Appeal Board, 1932-34; member of the King George V Memorial Fund Board of Trustees. 1938; chairman of the National Advisory Patrio : tic Council, deputy-chairman of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council. member of the Wellington Provincial Centennial Council, the National Recruiting Council and the committee which evolved the Home Guard scheme, and chairman of the Wairarapa Man Power Committee. Mr Jordan has also served for varying periods on the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, the Masterton Fire Board, the Wairarapa High School Board of Governors (1920-26. seven years as chairman), and the Lansdowne School Committee.
