PIRINOA

SCHOOL AFFAIRS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the last meeting of the Pirinoa School Committee the chairman (Mr G. Mclntosh) presided, other members present being Messrs G. Sutton (secretary), Duggan and Carter. Mr Riwai sent an apology for absence. Accounts amounting to £l2 were passed. The secretary submitted a report in connection with the recent picnic which showed a credit of £4 16s 6d. It was decided, to hand the amount to the headteacher to be paid to a patriotic fund as a donation from the school children. The secretary reported that he had placed an order with the Wellington Education Board for the supply of a radio to be installed in the school. The chairman and secretary were authorised to attend to the work of installation. It was also stated that the committee’s approximate proportion of costs in connection with the high pressure water system now being installed to supply the Pirinoa settlement was considered reasonable and payment would be made when the final adjustments were made. It was resolved to increase the insurance policy on the school piano. PATRIOTIC EFFORT BUSINESS AT COMMITTEE MEETING. The Pirinoa Patriotic Committee met on Thursday, Mr P. Macdonald presiding. The secretary submitted a statement regarding the dance held recently in honour of Leading Aircraftsman Hume. The balance was considered most satisfactory. The secretary reported that he had submitted the names of the committee to the Martinborough Patriotic Committee as requested. It was decided to hold another euchre tourney and dance within the next fortnight. DUCK SHOOTING IDEAL WEATHER ON OPENING DAY. The weather for the opening of the shooting season was all that could be desired, with the exception that conditions were extremely cold. Reports of limit bags were not much in evidence. Nevertheless a few shooters in the Kohunui and Kumenga localities obtained their limits. One prominent shooter stated that he had never seen so many ducks in all his experience of shooting in this district. There were, of course, others who never even sighted a bird during the whole of the opening day. Personal. Mr E. Nutt, Masterton, was the guest of Mr and Mrs Hutchison for the opening of the shooting season. Mr W. Enoka has returned from a visit to Porirua. Mr and Mrs R. McDonald, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs A. McDonald, Hokio, Levin, have returned home.
