WAIKATO MINES

DEADLOCK AT MACDONALD PIT SERIES OF MEETINGS. NO WORK AT GLEN AFTON YESTERDAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, May 5. When only three or four of the 70 io 80 MacDonald mine workers who live in Huntly arrived to catch the special bus to take them to the meeting arranged to be held at the minehcad this morning, the meeting had to be adjourned to take place in Huntly later in the afternoon. The meeting was arranged in Wellington. the executive council of the United Mine Workers' Union having arrived during the weekend to discuss the deadlock at the mine. It was arranged for the workers to be at the minehead at 8 a.m. today to hear addresses by the executive council, but those workers living in Huntly refused to go out to MacDonald for lhe meeting.

It is understood that the meeting at MacDonald was attended by a good proportion of the men living near the mine, but after an hour’s discussion the meeting had to be adjourned to Huntly so that there could be a fuller representation of the men. The Glen Afton mine was idle today, as the men wished to hear addresses by the delegates from Wellington. They travelled to Huntly for an afternoon meeting on a special train from the mine.

It. is considered likely that the executive council will have to address two meetings, one in Huntly and one at MacDonald, to reach al! lhe miners concerned in the dispute.
