CARTERTON
HOCKEY DALEFIELD CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr M. Knutson presided over a good attendance of members of the Dalefield Hockey Club when the annual general meeting was held at the residence of Mr W. Nielsen. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr W. Linton; vice-presid-ents, Messrs 11. E. Ordish, W. Nielsen, J. Barnett. J. Todd, E. A. Heyder. C. Sayer, C. Knutson, S. Gallon; secretary, Mr B. Nielson; coaches, Messrs ‘ L. Bicknell and J. T. Hooper; delegates / to Wairarapa Hockey Association, Messrs M. Knutson and K. Ordish. Subscriptions for the junior members this season have been increased to ss, this to include their travelling expenses. The cup for the most improved junior player was won by K. Jamieson. Owing to war conditions it was resolved that the club be represented by a junior team only. Votes of thanks were carried by acclamation to the lady supporters of the club, the Press, the chairman and to Mr and Mrs W. Nielson for the use of a room for meeting. LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS NOMINATIONS TO DATE. So far the following nominations have been received for the Carterton Mayoralty and Borough Council:— Mayoralty: Mr D. L. Taverner. Council: Messrs L. M. Clark, C. J. DeLacey, E. McKenzie, H. Mortenson, C. E'. Stevens, V/. A. Hart. Miss O. Wolters (all retiring members), and Mr W. R. Harry (new candidate). Councillors J. Udy and R. A. Copeland are not seeking re-election. Wairarapa South County:— Maungaraki Riding: Messrs C. A. Cameron, A. McGregor. J. J. Strang and D. McGregor (sitting). Parkvale: Mr G. E. Allen (in place of Mr Renal], not seeking re-election). Belvedere: Messrs A. E. Reid. E. W. Allen (sitting). Dalefield: Messrs F. Court. L. S. Gallon (sitting). Power Board: Mr G. W. Hart (new). Hospital Board: Messrs F. Court, D. McGregor (sitting). Mr Ralph Rayner has also been nominated for the Parkvale riding. P. & A. Society. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. & A. Society will be held in the society's rooms. Memorial Square, Carterton, at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. Dance at Parkvale. Tonight there should be a large attendance at' the Parkvale Hall, the occasion being a dance in aid of patriotic purposes. The committee has every arrangement made for a most successful evening. The music will be played by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra. For those who do not dance cards will be provided, the first prizes for which will be a sucking pig each for the women’s and men’s sections. The second prizes will also be good ones. Soldiers on Leave. Last evening a large number of soldiers from the Trentham camp were on leave in Carterton. Four bus loads left the camp, two of which stayed in Carterton and two went through to Masterton.
