MAORI PEOPLE
MESSAGE OF LOYALTY TO CROWN. TO BE CONVEYED BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A message of loyalty from the Maori people is to be conveyed to the King and Queen by the Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, when he goes to England. The resolution containing the message was carried at a hui held recently on the Otamatea Marae, North Auckland. Tht message, which the representative of the Native race on the Executive Council, Mr Paikea. was directed to have conveyed to their Majesties through the Prime Minister, is as follows: “That this meeting-of the chiefs and elders of the united tribes of the Maori people of New Zealand, extend to their Majesties their filial felicitations and reiterate their complete and unswerving loyalty to the Crown of England, particularly so during these days of aggression.’’ In his letter to the Prime Minister. Mr Paikea wrote that those present at the meeting wished him further to say that they would stand four square behind their Majesties till ruthless tyranny was wiped out and victory was completely won. and peace and goodwill reigned once more among all peoples of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Mr Fraser has advised Mr Paikea that he will be pleased to convey the message as desired.
