A. & P. Ball Cancelled. A decision to cancel the annual ball this year was made at a committee meeting of the Masterton A. and. P. Association last night. It was considered that such a function would interfere with patriotic work. Rifle Impressment. It is understood that registered owners of .303 rifles will receive individual impressment notices early next week, but the Prime Minister in a recent statement made it clear that failure to receive a notice does not exonerate a person from handing in his rifle. It has also been clearly indicated that all .303 rifles must be handed in. whether they are registered or unregistered, whether they are serviceable or unserviceable, and whether they are owned by the holder or merely held on behalf of some other person. Blind Angler Fish. A rare blind angler fish only the second of the species known to science, is included in an interesting collection of deep sea fishes from Cook Strait, presented to the Dominion Museum. This fish is in many respects unique. It is a small fish, six inches long and quite black. On the top of its head is a rod with a natural bait on the end of it. The bait consists of a small area of highly-luminous tissue, which possibly not only attracts prey but also helps to guide the fish through the water in some manner which scientists do not understand; for they are unable to trace any functional eyes. Another remarkable fish in the collection has very large elongate teeth and appears jto be able to swallow another fish almost ?s large as itself.

At the conclusion of the film the spontaneous applause was ample evidence that this gesture by the theatre management wa.s appreciated to the utmost. Supreme Court Sessions.
