GREYTOWN
RED CROSS ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Greytown Red Cross Society was held in the Plunket Rooms on Tuesday evening. Mr A. W. Horton was in the chair. The secretary, Mrs G. R. Jury, read letters received from two local boys, Roy Richards and Lionel Trotman, who had received parcels from the Greytown Red Cross. Both expressed their appreciation for the gifts. Mr Langford wrote asking for first aid equipment for the Home Guard. It was decided to hold a citizens’ shop day to raise funds for same. Altogether 2.481 garments had been sent from the Greytown Patriotic Sewing Guild through the Red Cross. It was decided to make a grant of £3 3s to Mrs G. R. Jury for the valued work she had put in for the Red Cross as secretary. The secretary was instructed to secure a hospital bed for the Red Cross room. Mr T. Petersen has kindly offered to prfint the Red Cross room free of charge, if the paint is procured for him. The offer was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to have the work done as soon as possible. Several Greytown members journeyed to Masterton recently to hear Miss Tennent, of Wellington, speak on Red Cross activities. Mrs Bunny represented Greytown. It was left to Miss Keddell to form a junior Red Cross branch. After reading the annual report, Mr Horton thanked Mrs Bunny for her continued interest and good work for the Greytown branch. He also thanked Mrs Jury for her untiring work as secretary. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr A. W. Horton; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames Bunny and Knell, and Messrs A. Nisbet and J. F. Thompson; secretary and treasurer, Mrs G. R. Jury; executive committee, Mesdames Knell, V. Kempton, Everett, Horton, Maddison, Gregor and Miss Keltic; auditor, Mr J. Kiernan.
ST. LUKE’S CHURCH MEETING OF LADIES’ GUILD. The monthly meeting of St Luke’s Ladies’ Guild was held in the Parish Hall yesterday, Canon Sykes presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames York, Kidd, Carter and Wiggins and the Misses Tate- and Kidd. Miss Stephens was given' power - to purchase material for making a kneeler for the altar rail and to'have same made up. Mrs Rees agreed to attend to church flowers for May. The wandering shilling parcel went to Canon Sykes. The hostesses, Mesdames Rees and Richards, were accorded a vote of thanks. Canon Sykes closed the meeting with prayer. Football. Two seven-a-side teams will be chosen from the following players to represent Greytown tomorrow: —I Faulknor, T. Hood, R. Conwell, D Dyson, M. Parker. W. Stringfellow, G. Humphrey, B. Jury, R. Jury, T. Sugrue, B. Spooner, R. Brunton, S. Brunton, D. Hawke, G. Field, L. Goodin. Golf. A draw will be made at the Greytown Golf Club house on Saturday at 1.15 for a handicap competition. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for April at Greytown were: Births 3, marriages 1 deaths 3. Rainfall. . The rainfall in Greytown in April totalled 2.44 inches. There were 10 wet days. In April last year the rainfall was 3.68 inches.
