REGARDING INTERVENTION IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL. ATTEMPT TO OPEN WAY TO ATTACK. _ (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 10.38 a.m.) RUGBY, May 1. Referring to rumours of intended British intervention in Spain and Portugal the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr R. A. Butler, stated in the House of Commons that these were devoid of foundation. "They are put out.” Mr Butler said, "by German propaganda agencies, with the object of stirring up feelings against Britain among the Spanish and Portuguese peoples and furthering German plans for the penetration of the Iberian-Pen-insula. It is the earnest hope of the British Government, that these plans will be frustrated and that the Spaniards and Portuguese will be spared the miseries, of war.”
