GREYTOWN

DAY THAT WILL LIVE CALL TO YOUNG PEOPLE. ("Times-Age” Special.) Every seat in the Town Hall was filled for the Anzac Day service held at Greytown. The units taking part in the procession were: Returned Soldiers, Home Guard, Fire Brigade, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Cubs and Brownies. Headed by the Wairarapa Pipe Band the parade, under the command of Captain H. G. Carter, marched to the Town Hall and formed up in front of the memorial. Each unit placed a wreath and pipers played a lament. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, presided at the civic service and on the stage were the Ministers of the churches and members of local bodies. The address was given by the Rev A. C. Lane, of Masterton. Mr Lane said that Anzac Day would live longer than many expected. The fight for freedom was being carried on by the second Anzacs. On his own, Man had failed, continued Mr Lane. The new order must include God’s world. The young people of today must be taught to build a world based on these principles and be prepared to make sacrifices, as those made by the men of Anzac. After the service the returned soldiers, their wives and families, were entertained by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at lunch in the Odd Fellows’ Hall. The strength of the various units present was: Returned Soldiers, 51; Home Guard, 158; Fire Brigade, 20; Scouts, 20; Cubs, 17; Guides, 26; Brownies, 18; total,, 310. Personal. Miss Joyce Horton, of Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mi- and Mrs A. W. Horton, for the weekend. Miss Dora Herod, of Lower Hutt, is home for the weekend with her parents, ,Mr and Mrs J. Herod, Battersea.
