AXIS FRIENDS
IN THE UNITED STATES DENOUNCED BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. SMALL BUT ACTIVE MINORITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 25. President Roosevelt today sharply criticised Colonel Lindbergh and others who believe the Axis Powers will win the war and compared persons who hold that viewpoint to the “Copperheads” of the Civil War'days. These views, President Roosevelt said, are held by only a small minority of the American people. He challenged the patriotism of this viewpoint and added that he was sorry that so many with this type of mentality are in positions of prominence to speak and write. For himself and a majority of others, President Roosevelt said, they were for a Democratic process and were’ willing to fight for it. They did not want to lie down and accept conquerors. Mr Emil Ludwig, the noted German author, has volunteered his services, without pay, and has been appointed by the Treasury to a position in connection with the war savings campaign. Mr Ludwig will speak and write particularly to German-Ameri-cans.
