ATHENS REPORT

CLASHES BETWEEN ADVANCE GUARDS BATTLE AT THERMOPYLAE. GERMANS HURLED BACK. (By Telegraph—Press Association —copyright) LONDON, April 25. The latest news of the fighting in Greece is given in the Greek military review broadcast from Athens. This says that only clashes between the advance guards had taken place in front of the new Allied positions. The expected general German offensive has not yet materialised. The latest German communique refers to the new Allied positions being in country favourable for defence. An American correspondent reports that an attempt by German infantry yesterday to storm the Allied positions in Thermopylae Pass was hurled back. The enemy then brought up heavy artillery 'and shelled the Allied positions. Dive bombers were also brought into operation, but the Greek and British Imperial forces retaliated' with equally fierce artillery fire. The correspondent said they were grimly hanging on to their positions.
