WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT HASTWELL. COMPETITION WINNERS. (‘.‘Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Hastwell Women’s Institute, Mrs K. Ngatuere presided over a good attendance of members. The weighing of the institute potatoes was watched with great interest. The competition resulted: Mrs Thorby, 391bs, 1; Mrs Wilton, 331bs, 2. The competitions for the month resulted as "follow: Seniors: Child’s frock, Mrs K. Ngatuere 1, Mrs Thorby 2, Mrs Madsen 3. Juniors: Child’s singlet, Miss E. Larsen 1, Miss O. Halberg 2, Miss I. Madsen 3. Best flower in garden, Miss H. Madsen 1, Mrs J. Dick 2, Miss Halberg 3.

The game competition, which was run by Miss Halberg, resulted: Miss P. Thorby 1, Miss A. Dick 2, Miss E. Larsen 3. The judges. Mrs Elliott and Miss Thorby, were thanked. Impromptu speeches caused great amusement.

A parcel of clothing was made up and sent to refugees. A letter was received from Mrs A. S. Carter, of Otaki, asking to be allowed to become a member of the institute.

Members were pleased to hear that Mrs Carter- was progressing favourably. The hostesses were Mrs Dick and Miss A. Dick. \
