COURSING
SATURDAY’S MEETING AT AKURA. OPENING OF THE SEASON. The opening of the coursing season at Akura on Saturday will bring together the pick of the two-year-olds for this year. Dogs that are expected to run well are Mr M. Hanley’s “Colleen,” which performed well throughout the racing season. Mr W. L. Jensen’s two young dogs should course well, as this owner usually brings his dogs to the slips in first-class order. Mr A. Spicer's “Our Minstrel” look like a strong runner, likewise Mr J. Hanley’s new dog from Wanganui. Arrangements arc v<ell in hand to ensure the perfect running of the events. The enclosure has been cleared of long grass and has just been freshly harrowed. The hares have had an intensive schooling and with natural feeding facilities in the home paddock are running very strongly for so early in the season.
Both events —the 16-dog Puppy Stake and the 12-dog Open Stake —are expected Io draw the full nomination. The draw will take place at the secretary's rooms, 34 Perry Street, at 9 o'clock on Thursday evening.
