MARTINBOROUGH

HOME GUARD TRAINING OPERATIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Home Guard held a parade on Sunday afternoon, there being a large muster. After the roll call, the platoons proceeded to Mr E. D. Martin’s property. Nos. 1 and 2 platoons comprised the attacking party, No. 3 platoon the headquarters, and No. 4 acted as the enemy on defence. The days’ operations disclosed a good grasp of the situation. Messages were relayed by the signallers. Mr A. B. Martin acted as umpire. At Dyerville on Monday the local platoon paraded and were instructed by Sergeant S. Harvey. Messrs A. B. Martin, H. Hardinge, and Sergeant F. Gray were also in attendance. Last night the members of the Martinborough guard paraded, and were marched to the football ground, where platoon exercises were carried out.

ANZAC DAY

ARRANGEMENTS FOR FRIDAY. Anzac commemoration services will be held in the Square on Friday, when members of the R.S.A., Home Guard, and Mounted Rifle units will parade, besides Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies. The Rev. Madill will give the address, and the prayers will be offered by the Rev. F. O. Ball. Hockey. The following will represent Martinborough in the ladies’ hockey match against College A on the Martinborough ground: —Goal. L. Kaio; fullbacks, A. Mills and W. Fuller; halves, P. Duffy, L. McCardle, J. McCardle; forwards, N. Lyster, R. McKinley, M. McKinley, S. Caseley and F. George. Euchre Party. An enjoyable euchre party was held last night by the recently-formed Happiness Club. The ladies’ prizes were won by Mrs Wright first and Mrs Moffitt second. Mr Findlay was first in the men’s section with Mr L. Boyd second. All winners handed back th'eir prizes and the sum of £4 2s will be given to the patriotic funds as the Outcome Of the evening.
