VALIANT AIRMEN
CITATIONS TO D.F.C. AWARDS. SPLENDID STANDARDS SET. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copy right) (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON. April 22. In connection with the awards of the D.F.C. to Wing Commander G. T. Jarman and Flying Officer C. A. Pownall, the citation states: — “Wing Commander Jarman by his courageous leadership and steadying example built up a very good squadron from a unit suffering severely from casualties. His determination to find and attack the primary target and his refusal to be deterred by enemy opposition were shown by the fact that on some 75 per cent of the flights of his plane it was hit by anti-aircraft fire.” The citation in connection with Fly-ing-Officer Pownall’s award says: “He has a consistent record of successful operations and participated in numerous bombing operations in Germany and occupied territory. Through great difficulties and danger incurred in attacking from extremely low altitudes, he constantly maintained a high-stand-ard of morale in the squadron by his cool and calm efficiency.”
