MEAT FOR BRITAIN
INCREASE IN AUSTRALIAN ’ QUOTA ANNOUNCED BY SIR E. PAGE. NEGOTIATIONS COMPLETED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Minister of Commerce, Sir Earle Page, announced last night that negotiations had been completed with the British Government, for the restoration of purchases of Australian meat for the year ended September 30, 1941, to 198,000 tons from 144,000 tons, to which it was reduced in January. NEW ZEALAND CONTRACT INCREASES ANTICIPATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Referring to the Sydney cablegram in regard to meat marketing, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr J. G. Barclay, said that while arrangements had not been completed, it was anticipated that the New Zealand contract would provide for increases proportionate to those mentioned by Sir Earle Page.
