CRIPPLED CHILDREN

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE ACTIVITIES AMONG YOUNG FOLK INVALID CHAIR WANTED. A meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa branch of. the New Zealand Crippled Children Society was held last evening, Mr E. M. Hodder presiding. Those present were Mrs H. E. Pither, Miss K. I. Craig, Mrs S. N.Kilgour and Messrs L. Robinson and L. F. Gray. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs S. L. P. Free and R. C. Drummond.

It was reported that a position had been obtained for a girl, with a local firm. A crippled boy was in need of an invalid chair so that he could be wheeled about. Inquiries were to be made for a suitable chair and any reader who had a chair that was not being used or knew of one that could be made available to the society is asked to communicate with a member of the committee or the secretary. Four new cases were registered. A number of crippled children were taken to see the coronation ceremony at the Masterton Park. It was a very enjoyable day for the children and would be long remembered. Reports on the progress of two girls who had had operative treatment were very satisfactory. A young boy who was recently examined had been admitted to hospital for treatment. Arrangements were made for a baby boy to be examined by a specialist with a view to special operative treatment. Accounts amounting to £4O 10s 7d were passed. Miss M. Hodges and Mr L. B. Maunsell were elected life members of the society and the Rev F. O. Ball was elected to annual membership. Mrs S. N. Kilgour, Welfare Officer, reported on visits made to Kopuaranga, Eketahuna, Pahiatua and surrounding districts. Twenty-four homes were visited and a total of 32 cases received attention since the last report. The annual meeting of members is to be held on Thursday evening, May 22, 1941, in the offices of Messrs Dunderdale and Gray, Perry Street.
