FISH AND GAME
NORTH WAIRARAPA ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL REPORT, ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY AFFAIRS. The annual report of the North Wairarapa Committee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society states: “During the season, our former delegate Mr Dale, resigned, and Mr Hope was appointed to fill the vacancy. We would like to place on record the splendid work done by Mr Dale over a number of years, as delegate. ' . “Fishing: We have given considerable time and thought to our plan of stocking local streams With yearling fish, and this' season we hope to liberate approximately 30,000 fish. The thanks Of the committee are due to Messrs W. Hope and W. Dale for- carting livers, and feeding our yearling fish.
Shag Destruction: We wish to place on record the good work of Messrs J. Wright and I. Dale, who have destroyed a large number of shags. Our thanks are due to Mr Jackson, who has reared approximately 70 ducks on his property, and these birds are a picture to look at. During the season Mallard cluck have been liberated oh the Park Lake, and on Mr Jackson’s property at Longbush. “The fishing season has been excellent, the rivers being well stocked, and some well-conditioned fish have been landed. From reports received, many a limit bag has been taken. The shooting season should open well this year, duck and swan, being plentiful oh the Wairarapa Lake. “We wish to thank the Wellington Society for its assistance during the past year but regret that they found it necessary to close certain rivers in our district for minnow fishing. We have to thank your committee for endeavouring to cater for all licence holders during the year. Mr Miller, the curator at the Hatcheries, continues to do good work, and our thanks are due to him for his valuable assistance at all times. To the other members of the committee thanks are due for their willing assistance over the past year. We wish to express our thanks to the Press foi’ its co-operation at all times. The annual meeting will be held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms on Thursday. April 21 at 8’ p.m. The Wellington Council will be present.” The report will be presented for and on behalf of the North Wairarapa Branch by the chairman, Mr F. B. Pickering.
