DANCE AT BELVEDERE
■ ENJOYABLE GATHERING. There was a very good attendance at the dance held in the Belvedere Schoolroom last evening. The music was supplied by Mrs Rogers, while much appreciated extras were played by Mr R. Knowles. Mouth organ selections were rendered by Mr N. Jenson and were enthusiastically encored. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs A. E. Reid. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Messrs G. Couper and A. E. Reid. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district. A most enjoyable gathering was brought to a close at midnight. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Miss Alice Ackerman took place yesterday and was largely attended. The pall bearers were Messrs Jno. and Jas. Nunn and Hadlee. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Canon Sykes, of Greytown. Many beautiful floral wreaths were sent by sympathisers. The late Miss Ackerman was the third daughter of the late Mr and Mrs H. J. Ackerman, of Parkvale, and was born in Somerset, England, coming to New Zealand with her parents in 1879. She had resided in the Carterton district ever since.- Miss Ackerman leaves two brothers, Messrs -W. and J. Ackerman, Lansdowne, and tv>o sisters, Mrs J. Gravestock, Lower Hutt, and Mrs J. Nunn, Kahutara. Another sister, Mrs H. Halfyard, predeceased her eight months ago.
Wonjen’s Patriotic Committee. A meeting of ladies interested in the formation of a Women’s Patriotic Committee for Carterton and district will be held on Thursday next at the Wairarapa P. and A. Society’s rooms. The mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, will preside. Anzac Day Parade. Members of the Carterton Returned Soldiers’ Association are requested to. fall in outside the bandroom at 1.30 p.m. on Friday in order to take part in the Anzac Day Parade. All medals, decorations and poppies are to be worn. A Black Out. ' Last evening Messrs Watson and Co’s, drapery shop was in darkness for a short period as the result of the switch connecting the shop lights on the power pole,blowing out. Poppy Day Sales. Members of the Women's Division did good work yesterday in connection with the sale of poppies on behalf of the Carterton branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, about 1300 poppies being sold. The proceeds will go towards the relief of distress among ex-servicemen in this district.
