CARTERTON
SALVATION ARMY JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. (‘■Times-Age" Special.) There was 'a large gathering of Salvationists in Carterton last evening, including a number from Masterton, in the vicinity of where the first open air meeting was held 50 years ago. A large crowd gathered to listen to the singing of old time Salvation Army choruses and songs. The meeting was led by Captain Ojala and Bro. D. Ballinger, C.S.M. A hearty invitation was extended to the people of Carterton to attend the Conversazione and Exhibition of Curios in the Salvation Army Hall at 2.30 p.m. and to the civic reception to Lt.-Commissioner and Mrs Evan Smith, Leader of the Army in New Zealand, at the Municipal bandroom. Speeches of welcome will be delivered by the Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner), the Deputy Mayor (Mr E. McKenzie) and the Chairman of the Wellington South County Council, Mr F. Chart. In the evening at 7.30 o'clock an “Old Timer Praise and Glory" meeting will be held. The Petone Band, 26 strong, will be present. The Commissioner and Mrs Evan Smith will be assisted by Brigadier and Mrs Chas. Gray and Major and Mrs Albert Chandler.
